AWMF Appoints Melissa Flagg as Executive Director

JAFFREY, NH – The Andrew W. Marshall Foundation (AWMF) has appointed Melissa Flagg, Ph.D., as its Executive Director. Melissa’s distinguished career as a leader and strategic thinker in her roles in research, government, and non-profit organizations, and as an AWMF advisor make her uniquely qualified for this position. She will lead the development and implementation of a lasting digital archive spanning the life and work of Andrew W. Marshall.

She brings a unique blend of leadership and management skills, originality, curiosity, risk-taking, a high tolerance for ambiguity, and a passion for our mission. Melissa will drive the critical initiatives that will further Andrew Marshall’s truest legacy –finding and mentoring people- and shape the future of strategic thinking,” said Jaymie Durnan, Co-founder and Chair of AWMF.

Melissa is founder and president of Flagg Consulting LLC, a visiting fellow at the Perry World House, and a senior advisor to the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) at Georgetown University. Previously, she served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Research, responsible for policy and oversight of Defense Department science and technology programs. She has worked at the State Department, the Office of Naval Research, the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Army Research Laboratory.

In addition to the Andrew W. Marshall Foundation Advisory Board, Melissa has served on the National Academy of Sciences Air Force Studies Board is currently on the Board of World Forest ID. Melissa holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and a B.S. in Pharmacy.
