The Foundation is committed to supporting the people, resources, and ideas needed to sustain substantive multi-disciplinary strategic analysis of the long-term competitive national security environment facing the United States. The digital collection represents a foundational asset that enables further research, increases public understanding about Marshall’s contributions to strategic thought, and inspires new lines of inquiry.
The goals of the Digital Collection are:
- Capturing and preserving tacit knowledge
- Building a reliable picture from many points of view
- Serving long-term scholarship, not short-term readership
- Preserving context before it’s lost
Three parallel projects support the digital collection: the Library, the Archive, and the Oral History project.
The Library includes both historical and current books, memoranda, research papers, audio files, and videos from Andy Marshall, his contemporaries, and our growing AWMF community.
The Archive includes digitization of more than thirty boxes of papers in his home and preserves Andrew W. Marshall’s seven decades of thinking about U.S. national security.
The Oral History project constructs the human topology of Mr. Marshall’s intellectual legacy through over 50 interviews, preserving the web of themes, relationships, and reflections that can’t be easily inferred from written materials.
